From the nine precious offerings, the candle holder, or butter lamp, is placed on one’s altar to symbolize illuminating wisdom.
In Tibetan homes, butter has always been highly prized, thus it makes an excellent offering to the deities for generating merit. The butter lamp is traditionally kept lit day and night, however your local fire station may frown on this. Still, the butter lamp can be placed on the altar as a beautiful symbolic gesture of homage to the radiance of mind while safer means of illumination, such as 1 or 2 small LED lamps, are added. Some place a small devotional candle inside the butter lamp, rather than the traditional filling of ghee or melted butter and a wick. Some prepare the butter lamp before entering their teacher’s presence, and offer it to him or her for lighting to symbolically request the awakening of one’s mind.
Imported direct from the Himalayas, different models are available for you to choose the one proper to your shrine, in harmony with your offering bowls.
Complete your shrine with an offering bowl set. You can find all our offering items here.
This style measures 15cm high by 10cm wide.
